so did one who lived down the hall
Kathy Brown Kathy Brown
all that remains is borrowed evidence
of her name
meager possessions
pickings for the birds
of prey
Kathy Brown Kathy Brown
you walked in
borrowed "gifts" were in your hands
evidence of another's plans
I don't want to remember her by her things
I want to remember her smile
her beaming face
I want to remember how
we came to say hello
those random circumstances so long ago
good soldiers fade
one by one
right before your eyes
the setting of the sun
wasn't it just a month ago
we spoke
we smiled
we laughed
our eyes matching our grins
asking me where and how I'd been
and all that's left of you now
is borrowed evidence
when did you go
with your rainbow smile
and your tie-dyed eyes
that I couldn't see you off...
sweet sweet
